HOSTEL FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE

The project brief was to design a hostel for women and children in the existing three-storey building, located at Twilfit House, Jervis St, North City, Dublin. It was important to make the hostel a welcoming and relaxing place to be. The design was inspired by Zen philosophy. A Zen-inspired home is all about creating a union between the outdoors and indoors. The interior had to be simple with good storage. I aimed to create the public areas filled with natural light and with loads of open spaces. The living quarters would need less ambient light to enhance the mood and relaxing atmosphere. Diffused lighting, LED strip and concealed lighting were the components of your design. The main materials used were natural materials, such as wood, bamboo and glass. Primarily I used soft pastel shades for zoning spaces, two colours with similar warm or similar cool tones to link the spaces.
I picked the classic 1950s palette mixed shades of pale green, orange and blue. To achieve modern and fresh look, I picked neutral blond wood and pure white backdrop for the contrasting shades. The contemporary furniture made a visually bold statement in the rooms.
